Full Job Description

WANTED: Music teachers for in-person music lessons (particularly in the popular voice/piano/guitar categories, although other instruments are a huge plus!) at a private music school in Seattle, primarily focusing on our peak business hours (the 2:00-8:00pm range on weekdays, particularly Wednesdays & Thursdays).

Please send your resume & cover letter (or call 206-420-3896) to schedule an interview today!

The Music Factory (a fun, laid-back private music school located in the beautiful Madison Valley neighborhood of Seattle WA) is searching for well-rounded, fun, professional & reliable teachers for private one-on-one music lessons with students of all ages, experience levels & social backgrounds!

We are particularly seeking candidates who can offer a wide range of consistent availability for weekly lessons within our peak hours of approximately 2:00-8:00pm on weekdays, and who can provide professional-level lessons on a wide variety of instruments (with a particular focus on our high-demand categories of voice, piano & guitar lessons).

Our teachers are…..

SELF EMPLOYED – Each of our teachers are self-employed 1099 independent contractors with freedom to decide their available teaching hours & their own individual policies (with regard to matters such as rescheduled/makeup lessons, etc), while also adhering to The Music Factory’s general policies & participating heavily in our overall framework. Each teacher employs their own unique talents in connecting with their students, and The Music Factory does not dictate how our teachers shape their lesson plans.

WIDELY AVAILABLE & FLEXIBLE – It can take time for our teachers to fill a packed schedule with committed students, and our most successful teachers are able to offer a wide range of availability during our peak hours (weekdays from 2:00pm to 8:00pm) as well as our weekend mornings & afternoons. This process of casting the initial net as wide as possible generates the fastest results, and can always be re-evaluated over time.

WELL COMPENSATED – Depending on the layout of their schedules, our teachers can earn from $40 to $50 per hour.

FUN, ENGAGING & PROFESSIONAL – We aim for a perfect balance of a laid-back/casual presentation under which lies a rock-solid foundation of utter professional excellence. Our teachers are expected to always present a friendly & engaging attitude with their students & their families, to communicate promptly & professionally with their clients & fellow staff members, and to fully understand & cooperate with all policies established by The Music Factory’s administration.

SAFE & RESPONSIBLE – We expect each of our teachers to strictly adhere to all current COVID-19 precautions, and to honor all requests for extra safety measures from students/parents/etc. All in-person teachers are also expected to be capable of conducting lessons online (via Zoom, FaceTime, etc) in the event of a client’s request to do so.

PUNCTUAL & RELIABLE – Outside of the occasional emergency/illness/etc, we expect all of our teachers to be consistently available for their students’ weekly lesson appointments, and to bear the responsibility of arranging substitute teachers (with help from our management, if necessary) in the event of an absence. We ask that our teachers be as flexible as possible with regard to reschedule requests from their clients, and to keep their own rescheduling needs to an absolute minimum. We also reserve the right to assign students to other teachers (and/or terminate a teacher’s association with The Music Factory) if a teacher demonstrates an extraordinary unwillingness/inability to consistently maintain their weekly lesson schedule.

STRONG COMMUNICATORS – In order to ensure transparency & careful documentation of important details, The Music Factory conducts the overwhelming majority of its daily communications via email, particularly with regard to the process of booking new students for our teachers (phone calls & text messages are generally only used for same-day emergencies). All of our staff are expected to check & respond to emails from The Music Factory’s administrators on a regular basis, multiple times per week (or per day, ideally). We consider this a matter of extremely basic professional competence, and any teacher who demonstrates extraordinary unwillingness/inability to adopt & enforce these habits will be generally considered a “last resort” in management’s efforts to pair new students with their future teacher.

TEAM PLAYERS – The Music Factory conducts regular staff meetings (generally via Zoom) and hosts regular student recitals. All teachers are expected to participate in these activities & other company-wide campaigns, and to do their part in keeping The Music Factory’s building clean & presentable.

PARTNERS IN HELPING THE MUSIC FACTORY GROW – According to their individual skills & experience levels, our teachers contribute to a wide variety of administrative tasks on behalf of The Music Factory (including social media management & content creation, promotional efforts, student recital coordination, web development/design, etc) in exchange for extra income beyond their usual teaching wages. If you have skills/experience in any of these areas (or others), we’d love to discuss the possibility of putting that into action!

If this sounds like you, we would be thrilled to set up an interview! Please send a resume & brief message to introduce yourself (or give us a call at 206-420-3896), and we’ll be delighted to get back to you as soon as we can!
