Title: Part-me High School Choir Teacher

Supervises: N/A

Reports to: High School Director

FLSA Status: Exempt

When Needed: 2022 – 2023 Academic Year

FTE: Part-me, Academic Year (2 periods/wk)

Seale Waldorf School is seeking an engaging, enthusiastic, and compassionate part-me choir teacher to join our high school Music Department. We are looking for someone who has a deep knowledge of and passion for music education, and who is passionate about teaching high school students. We are seeking a music educator who understands best practices in music teaching, who can work effectively as part of a team, as well as independently, and who is interested in collaborative and multidisciplinary approaches based in cultavatng a positive and encouraging learning environment. We are looking for staff and faculty who share our belief that a culturally rich and inclusive school community provides students with the best possible environment for a quality education.

Job Summary: Provides an optimal, joyful classroom experience for high school choir class

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Teaches two periods of choir per week when school is in session
  • Develops choir curriculum to meet the needs of students in Grade 9-12
  • Keeps records and writes reports according to current school guidelines
  • Collaborates with Music Department faculty in planning two annual music performances, including up to six additional hours per week for performances
  • Amends periodic Music Department Meetings; participates in High School Faculty Meetings, Full Faculty meetings, and In-Service/PD days as scheduled
  • Keeps records and writes reports according to current school guidelines
  • Models a culture of flexible, continuous learning for students and colleagues
  • Complies and is familiar with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents
  • Supports community relations by maintaining open and candid dialogue with all of the school’s constituencies
  • Engages in professional development as determined in conversation with High School leadership
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities since safety and security are everyone’s responsibility
  • Performs other dues as assigned

Education & Experience:

  • Choral direction experience
  • Formal music training
  • Experience working with high school age students
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year college or university
  • Waldorf Experience and/or Teaching Certificate preferred
  • State Teacher Certificate and/or experience teaching in a classroom environment preferred
  • Culturally Responsive Teaching experience preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Expertise in music educaon and commitment to excellence in teaching
  • Ability to develop engaging curriculum and work independently and in collaboraon with the Music Department
  • Strong organizaonal skills
  • Excellent wrien and verbal communicaon skills, including communicaon with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Ability to work with and support students of all abilies including students with accommodaons
  • Commitment to self-development and collegial cooperaon ; ability to work in a hands-on team environment
  • Possessing a level of cultural competency necessary for working with a diverse populaon in an inclusive and equitable community

o We seek a teacher who is aware of the racial, socio-economic, gender, and other inequies present in educaon, and acvely works to eliminate these in the classroom

  • Ability to work efficiently in a Microso Windows or Mac environment using Office, Google Suite, common automated systems for record keeping, and confidently learn new technology
  • Ability to maintain confidenal informaon
  • Flexibility, maturity, and a sense of humor
  • Ability to work outside in all weather
  • Ability to climb stairs
  • Ability to li up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to travel locally (field trips)
