Johnson University Tennessee invites applications for a full-time Lead Audio Engineer. The Lead Audio Engineer oversees a variety of creative and technical areas of production with a focus on audio. This position serves as the primary audio engineer for live events, worship services, and online broadcasts. This position also oversees and manages department resources in the campus auditorium and broadcast facilities.

• Serve as the primary audio engineer (A1) for all major live events and online broadcasts
• Manage and maintain all live audio production equipment and systems
• Manage and maintain PW auditorium and ARC broadcast production spaces
• Manage and maintain portable production equipment
• Oversee creative staging and lighting design for live production events
• Manage and oversee student workers for regular productions
• Train student workers in audio, lighting, and portable production

• Mix audio for post-production projects for special occasions
• Assist with maintenance of Media Services computers and software systems
• Participate in the creative process and planning for special events
• Assist with design and installation of systems integration projects
• Work with Assistant Director to manage and maintain work rooms, tools, and inventory of supplies for campus production

• Expert skill and knowledge of live audio production
• Auditory ability to articulate and manipulate complex layers of sound in precise detail
• Ability to recognize frequency and sonic characteristics to quickly diagnose and troubleshoot live and post-production mixes
• Intuitively mix various types of audio with appropriate musicality, tone, and dynamics
• Sensitivity to dynamic requirements of various types of audiences including volume and system response
• Working knowledge of live digital console and DAW workflows including Pro Tools, Dante Protocol, and Waves Sound Grid
• Basic IT networking skill required for managing modern production systems
• Cable termination skills of all types of standard low voltage connections
• Production of common digital audio formats for distribution
• Competency in creative and technical lighting fundamentals
• Working knowledge of lighting consoles and basic programming workflows for both worship and corporate functions
• Organizational skills
• Concise and effective oral and written communication skills

• Bachelor’s degree in live production or related field
• Experience in a variety of live production environments including worship, corporate, and athletic events

This position primarily works in the field with occasional time spent at a desk. Extended periods of standing and physical exertion are often required due to the nature of the work. High-pressure situations are common during live events that may require a rapid mental and physical response. 12–16-hour days with minimal breaks are not uncommon.
