Full Job Description

Job Summary

Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) is seeking highly motivated and creative individuals to build and implement high quality music education programming in elementary, middle and high schools across the district. Full-time positions include elementary general music and secondary choral, band, or orchestra direction in single or paired school placements.

Music educators are part of the vibrant arts community in Milwaukee and have countless opportunities to partner with Milwaukee’s professional arts organizations. Educators are supported by the Music Curriculum Specialist and two music support teachers in the office of Fine Arts, as well as the Milwaukee Music Educators Association, a growing community of music educators across the district who seek to share best practices and develop a strong and culturally responsive music curriculum.

MPS music educators provide a music curriculum aligned to the Wisconsin Music Standards. In MPS, the teachers and leaders are committed to the vision of high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, the achievement of academic proficiency for all students, and the closing of the achievement gap among subgroups within the schools. Milwaukee Public Schools is a great place for those who seek to work in an environment that supports their creativity and innovation, and respects their skills and abilities as a teacher.

How To Apply

Interested applicants should complete all sections of the application including the online submission of a current resume.

At the time of hire, the selected candidate will need to submit three (3) letters of recommendation dated within the last year and signed by the author and a copy of official transcripts verifying his/her conferred undergraduate degree.

Qualifications

To be considered, applicants must hold a current Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Instrumental (1506), Choral (1511) or General (1515) music teacher license or have the ability to obtain a license by the start of the 2022-23 school year.

As of November 1, 2021, all MPS employees are required to be fully vaccinated. The health and safety of our staff and students is our number one priority.

All offers of employment are contingent on the candidate showing proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (currently one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine or two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine) to pass the pre-employment requirements. Individuals with medical issues or sincerely held religious beliefs that prevent them from getting the vaccine may request an accommodation from the vaccine requirement.

Equal Employment Opportunity

The Milwaukee Public Schools does not discriminate in its programs, activities, facilities, employment, or educational opportunities on the basis of a person’s sex, race, age, religion, color, national origin, ancestry, creed, pregnancy, marital or parental status, sexual orientation, or disability. Reasonable accommodations requested by qualified individuals with disabilities will be made in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, as amended by the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) of 2008.

In accordance with Wisconsin Statutes, every applicant for a position with Milwaukee Public Schools will be subject to the open records law. Any applicant not wishing to have his/her identity released, must submit a written statement to that effect to the Office of Human Resources. The identities of all “final candidates” may be released. Milwaukee Public Schools reserves the right to interview the best qualified candidates.
