Job Summary

ALBA K-8 is seeking candidates for a full-time music teacher providing general music for students in grades K-5 and instrumental – orchestra for students in grades 6-8. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply. This position is in an MPS school that will follow the Early Start school calendar for the 2022-23 school year. The first workday of the school year is Monday, August 8, 2022.

Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) is seeking highly motivated and creative individuals to build and implement high quality music education programming. Music educators are part of the vibrant arts community in Milwaukee and have countless opportunities to partner with Milwaukee’s professional arts organizations. Educators are supported by the Music Curriculum Specialist and three music support teachers in the office of Fine Arts, as well as the Milwaukee Music Educators Association, a growing community of music educators across the district who seek to share best practices and develop a strong and culturally responsive music curriculum.

MPS music educators provide a music curriculum aligned to the Wisconsin Music Standards. In MPS, the teachers and leaders are committed to the vision of high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, the achievement of academic proficiency for all students, and the closing of the achievement gap among subgroups within the schools. Interview panels may request candidates to submit additional items including, but not limited to, letters of recommendation, sample lesson plans, referrence lists, and/or writing samples.

At the time of hire, the selected candidate will need to submit three (3) letters of recommendation dated within the last year and signed by the author and a copy of official transcripts verifying his/her conferred undergraduate and graduate degree, if applicable.


Qualifications

To be considered, applicants must hold a current Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Instrumental (1506) and General (1515) music teacher license or have the ability to obtain the licenses by the start of the 2022-23 school year.

As of November 1, 2021, all MPS employees are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. The health and safety of our staff and students is our number one priority.
