Full Job Description

Position Overview:

Responsible for executing the sound design, running playback, and mixing large scale musicals as assigned by Sound

Department Manager, for one to three shows as part of a rotating repertory season in three theatres, with careful

attention to details and precise timeliness.


Promotion Schedule
: Sound Engineers will be considered from two possible sources. OSF will search internally and

candidate must be a current Assistant Sound Engineer in good standing. Or OSF will conduct an external job search.

OSF will maintain a minimum of three Sound Engineers with the right to add more as management deems appropriate.

Sound Engineer roles will undergo an interview process when a position is available. Interviews will be conducted by

the Sound Department Manager.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions**):

1. Embraces the Festival’s commitment that diverse ideas, culture and traditions reflect the broad diversity of

our nation and enrich our insight into the work we present onstage, performs work in a manner that is

consistent with OSF’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, and interrupts behaviors that hinder

our diversity and inclusion efforts
2. Programs Sound Console and, if needed, Qlab during technical rehearsals.
3. Runs console and playback for technical rehearsals and performance run
4. Live mixes small to large scale musicals and Elizabethan shows.

5. Sets up and maintains sound systems in three theatres
6. Is in conversation with Sound Designer, Composer, Music Director, and Sound Department Manager on

implementing sound design.
7. Shows leadership, patience, and understanding in overseeing audio crews for load ins, technical rehearsals,

and runs of show
8. Maintains and troubleshoots the integrity and performance quality through the run of the shows
9. Communicates proficiently with Stage Management in regards of the sound needs for rehearsals, tech, and

run of shows


Other Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Participates in special events by assisting with sound needs
2. Attends rehearsals and run through as needed

3. Understudies other Sound Engineer, Assistant Sound Engineers, and Sound Technician tracts as needed
4. Assists Elizabethan Sound Designers with system and actor equalization
5. Maintenance and Inventory of OSF audio equipment
6. Performs other duties as assigned

Supervision Received
: Sound Department Manager, Associate Sound Department Manager
Supervision Exercised: Assistant Sound Engineer, Sound Technician


REQUIRED:

Work Experience: A minimum of four years of professional experience executing sound playback live mixing and

troubleshooting for theatre is required.

Qualifications/skills: Basic knowledge of hand tools and rigging. Advanced knowledge of sound consoles,

speakers, wireless systems, digital and analog audio equipment. Computer skills, specifically PC/Mac systems,

networking. Qlab Programming. Knowledge of Yamaha consoles, Meyer sound products, wireless microphones, and

various sound software.


Physical Ability:
Must have a good sense of hearing and the abilities of to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl

and lift up to 50 pounds.


Other Skills, Ability and/or Knowledge
: The abilities to work within a team structure as well as independently and

to maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating effectively with clients, patrons, co-workers and management are required


Special Hours Requirements
: Night-time and weekend hours are regularly required. Standard workweek is

Tuesday –Sunday. The schedule is available one week in advance of work. Overtime is required, especially during

technical rehearsals. The ability to work a variable schedule is required.


PREFERRED:

Education: College degree preferred
Work Experience: Recording techniques, including knowledge of Logic, Pro Tools, or other Digital Audio

Workstations. Working knowledge of Vectorworks or CAD. Working knowledge of SMAART or SIM. Sound System

design experience.

Pay range
: $23.52 hourly, non-exempt. (This position is represented by IATSE Local 154.)
