We invite applications for the position of Chair of the Department of
Computer Science as a tenured Associate Professor or tenured Professor
effective on or before September 1, 2022. Candidates should have a
Ph.D. in the field of Computer Science.

Candidates will usually have a strong record of teaching, research and
service at a university, but candidates from industry with a strong
research and teaching record, who have been recognized for their
mentorship and leadership are also encouraged to apply. The successful
candidate will have a demonstrated track record for, strong academic
leadership, a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, and
strong teaching and scholarly activities.

The Department, situated within the Faculty of Engineering and
Computer Science, offers B.Sc. Major, Honours and minor degrees in
Computer Science and a Bachelor of Software Engineering program,
jointly offered with the Department of Electrical and Computer
Engineering. It offers several joint programs combining Computer
Science with Geography, Health Information Sciences, Mathematics,
Music, Physics, Psychology, Statistics and Visual Arts. The department
offers Masters and Doctoral programs and there are currently 133
graduate students. It also offers a one-year course-based Master of
Engineering in Applied Data Science, jointly with the Department of
Electrical and Computer Engineering. Both undergraduate and graduate
students can benefit from a cooperative education program.

There are currently 33 faculty members, fifteen members having joined
the Department in the past five years, creating a dynamic environment
with opportunities for growth and development. The
Engineering/Computer Science (ECS) building opened in Oct. 2006 and
the Department has two Canada Research Chairs and CFI funded
laboratories. There is a planned extension to the ECS building, which
will include multi-disciplinary space. More information on the

Requirements

Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Computer
Science, the Chair of the department is responsible for providing
strategic and administrative leadership to the department’s programs.
The successful candidate will have the ability to maintain the
confidence and cooperation of the department and provide leadership in
the pursuit of excellence in Teaching, Research and Scholarly
Activity. In addition to the regular academic duties, they will
promote equity, diversity and inclusion; uphold and foster collegial
governance with the department, the Dean’s Office, and other
administrative units of the University; advocate for and support
faculty members, staff and students in their work; and effectively and
efficiently manage the department’s administrative affairs, exercising
good judgment in decision-making. High-level interpersonal skills,
good judgment, a consultative and collegial approach, and a proven
record of success as a leader in an academic setting is required. For
