JOB DESCRIPTION FOR: CHOIR DIRECTOR

GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH, OMRO, WI

Job Title: Choir Director

Reports to: Board of Elders and its Chairman

Major Job Duties:

The Choir Director leads and oversees the choir. They are responsible for working with congregational leadership on a schedule of ministry, choosing appropriate music, recruiting choir members, organizing and leading practice, along with setup of a practice schedule. There is an exception that the choir as a minimum sing once a month from September through May. The Choir director is accountable to the Pastor and/or Associate Pastor and Board of Elders and will be subject to periodic reviews.

Job Responsibilities:

• The Choir Director may play piano and or sing along with the choir, but their focus should be direction.
• The Choir Director will be responsible for finding their own accompanist.
• There is a budget to pay the accompanist.
• The Choir Director will work with the Pastor on music selection
• Any new song must be approved by the Pastor before being sung during a service.
• The Choir Director will be responsible for organization of all music. Duties to include:
• Procuring/purchasing music for all songs.
• Making copies and distribution of music to members.
• The Choir Director will be responsible for set-up (equipment) of practices.
• The Choir Director will be responsible for attending the yearly music committee meeting that sets the yearly music ministry schedule (who plays what weekend).
• The Choir Director will be responsible for management of the yearly budget as set by the Board of Elders.

Job Specifications:

Must be a person of Christian faith, Missouri Synod Lutheran preferred.

Communication skills are essential, email, text messaging, etc.

Must be a team player.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Previous choral experience is a must.

Previous musical leadership experience (worship team, choir, etc.), a musical degree is a plus.
