The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:

1. SCOPE OF WORK

1.1. General: The Catholic Worship leader will provide choral direction and leadership for the 0900 Roman Catholic Sunday Mass, Holy Day services, funerals, and all Catholic Choir rehearsals. Mass times are subject to change and contractor must be able to adjust to schedules in coordination with the Catholic Priest, COR or designee.

1.2. Environment: The Fairchild AFB Chaplain Corps Mission is to provide for the diverse religious and spiritual needs of Air Force personnel and their families, support individual rights under the First Amendment of the US Constitution and provide an opportunity for assigned personnel and their dependents to freely exercise their religious beliefs.

2. QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

2.1. General: The Catholic Worship leader must be able to provide choral direction and leadership and accompaniment throughout a broad range of musical genres, creating a worshipful environment at the 0900 Catholic Mass for traditional and liturgical worship in a Roman Catholic context. The Catholic Worship leader must possess the ability to lead congregational and ensemble singing. The Catholic Worship Leader must possess the ability to play for congregational and ensemble singing and improvise while playing keyboards or accompanying a soloist or ensemble. The Catholic Worship leader will also understand the military chaplaincy and will train and supervise volunteers to work with chaplains and musicians as necessary.

2.2. Experience: The Catholic Worship leader will possess at least four years of experience as a worship musician.

2.3. Demonstrated ability. The Catholic Worship leader be required as a part of the application process to demonstrate their ability to perform musically.

2.4. The Catholic Worship leader must have knowledge of Catholic hymnody, psalmody, and liturgical principles and dynamics.

2.5. The Catholic Worship leader must be familiar with the liturgical church calendar and be able to select music appropriate to the season and conduct the choir team in the performance of seasonal music.

2.6. The Catholic Worship leader will consult and coordinate services rendered with the Catholic Priest, COR or designee.

2.7. The Catholic Worship leader must be able to clearly communicate in English and conduct administrative requirements with verbal and written clarity.

2.8. The Catholic Worship leader must maintain healthy, functional interpersonal relationships with staff and parishioners in a pluralistic environment.

2.8. The Catholic Worship leader must maintain professional standards of conduct and public decorum, including but not limited to dress and grooming.

2.9. Background Check: The Catholic Worship leader will be required to undergo a background check IAW DoDI 1402.5 and ensure that a minimum of two adults are present when children age 18 and under are participating in any religious education program and that line-of-sight supervision of all adults is maintained at all times. Ensure all volunteers working with youth below 18 years of age receive a background check as outlined in DoDI 1402.5, Background Checks on Individuals in DoD Child Care Services Programs.

3. CATHOLIC WORSHIP LEADER RESPONSIBILITIES

3.1. The Catholic Worship leader will coordinate music selections and requirements with the Catholic Priest, COR or designee.

3.2. The Catholic Worship leader will prepare for and direct all rehearsals at the Fairchild AFB Chapel in support of the 0900 Roman Catholic Mass as established by the Catholic Priest, COR or designee. The Director will arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the rehearsal to ensure all equipment is set up and all preparations made for choir needs. Mass times are subject to change and contractor must be able to adjust to schedules in coordination with the Catholic Priest, COR or designee.

3.2.1. Rehearsals will generally last one hour to one-and-a-half hours in length.

3.2.2. The Catholic Priest, COR or designee and the Catholic Worship leader will determine the time, location, and quantity of rehearsals and performances for the Catholic congregation.

3.2.3. Additional rehearsals beyond the weekly rehearsal must be coordinated and approved in advance by the Catholic Priest, COR or designee or his designee.

3.2.4. The Catholic Worship leader will prepare for and direct choir and ensemble music at the Fairchild AFB Chapel for the 0900 Sunday Mass and Holy Day observations as established by the Catholic Priest, COR or designee. The Director will arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the rehearsal to ensure all equipment is set up and all preparations made for choir needs. Performances shall include a 15-minute warm up session before each service begins. Worship services will generally be expected to last at least one hour. Mass times are subject to change and contractor must be able to adjust to schedules in coordination with the Catholic Priest, COR or designee. The Catholic Worship leader will provide prelude and postlude music.

3.3. The Catholic Worship leader must be willing to work flexible hours due to possible variances of rehearsals, worship services or special service/activities times.

3.4. The Catholic Worship leader will be responsible for setting up and securing musical scores, lead sheets, lyric sheets, and hymnals, and all other necessary equipment (other than instruments) involved with any rehearsal/performance.

3.5. The Catholic Worship leader will recruit musicians as necessary to enhance the worship experience of the congregation.

3.6. The Catholic Worship leader will regularly advise the Catholic Priest, COR or designee concerning budgetary needs for the parish music program.

3.7. The Catholic Worship leader is accountable for security and cleanliness of all facilities utilized in conjunction with his or her program.

3.8. The Catholic Worship leader will meet regularly with the Catholic Priest, COR or designee to discuss/review the status of the Catholic Music Program and exchange feedback during the contract period.

3.9. The Catholic Worship leader will adhere to all Chapel Operation Instructions and Air Force policies.

4. GENERALINFORMATION

4.1. Absences: The Catholic Worship leader will personally perform the services described or coordinate performance by a substitute of equal or higher proficiency who has been approved in advance by the Catholic Priest, COR or designee or his designee. The Catholic Worship leader is required to submit the name(s) and qualifications of proposed substitute of the Catholic Worship leader to the Catholic Priest, COR or designee for approval at least 14 duty (work) days prior to the proposed absence. Alternate or substitute Catholic Worship leaders must meet the requirements for the position as outlined in the Performance Work Statement (PWS). The Catholic Worship leader is responsible for payment of a substitute.

4.1.1. Scheduled absences will be identified at least 14 duty (work) days in advance and mutually agreed upon by the Catholic Worship leader and the Catholic Priest, COR or designee. Scheduled absences include vacation, continuing education, planned hospitalization, spiritual retreat, and other foreseeable events.

4.1.2. Scheduled absences that are planned to last 14 duty (work) days or more require the contractor to arrange qualified replacements to perform the contractor’s duties while the Catholic Worship leader is absent. The replacement must meet the requirements for the position as outlined in the Performance Work Statement (PWS). Unexpected, shorter term absences will not require that the contractor provide a replacement
