Full Job Description

WFXR WWCW, the local FOX and CW affiliates in Roanoke, Virginia has an immediate opening for a Broadcast Engineer. This position is responsible for operating, maintaining, updating and repairing hardware and systems used for broadcasting and business operations.

  • Works with the Engineering team to maintain all broadcast technology and equipment for the station
  • Works with the Engineering team to install and test new systems and technical infrastructure for the station
  • Minimizes service interruptions at times of equipment and/or system failure by rapidly identifying and implementing solutions
  • Sets up and operates equipment and transmission links during outside broadcasts
  • Works with the Engineering team to Install and maintain the IT network, switches, data backups, workstations and printers
  • Interprets and implements instructions and requests from other station personnel
  • Communicates with members of the engineering team and other teams to effectively resolve equipment and system issues
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements & Skills :

  • Technical degree in Digital Electronics, Broadcasting, Information Technology or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
  • Strong Troubleshooting skills for information technology systems and broadcast systems
  • Fluency in English
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Experience with digital electronics and IT systems
  • Strong Windows OS/MS Office and Active Directory experience
  • Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipment
  • Experience with production setups, A/V routing and patching, audio equipment, graphics systems and editing systems preferred
  • Experience with broadcast-related equipment such as transmitters and microwave signals a plus
  • Experience evaluating, selecting, installing, servicing and maintaining broadcasting industry equipment and information technology system s
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, system schematics and flow charts
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
