Broadcast Engineer
Full-Time, Regular
Reports to: Senior Director, Engineering
We’re looking to hire an experienced broadcast engineer to join the team at WETA. We are building new production facilities with the most advanced (SMPTE 2110) systems. You will participate in the transition to this new facility and support existing facilities in our daily operations. This position is covered by the IBEW union contract.
In an average week, you can expect to:
  • Field calls to support/repair issues in production, post production, and on-air master control.
  • Provide research assistance in new technologies and solutions throughout WETA facilities.
  • Work with editors, technical directors, and other technical staff to isolate and resolve issues.
  • Relocate and re-commission systems during facility renovations.
  • Join the rest of the team in learning about the new technology we are deploying.
What success looks like:
  • After 60 days, you will have developed working relationships with the engineering team members and technical operations staff, learned the basic architecture and equipment compliment of existing WETA facilities, and resolved issues in areas of your existing expertise.
  • After 120 days, you will have successfully executed small and midsized projects, expanded your areas of competence to include most production and post production systems at WETA, and engaged in Employer provided SMPTE 2110 training.
You must have:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in broadcast engineering.
  • Expertise in studio/production engineering. Switchers, Cameras, Audio mixers, intercom systems, etc.
  • Expertise in NLE platforms (AVID preferred) and production asset management systems.
  • Solid understanding of core hardware, computer, and electrical systems.
  • Experience with file-based post production workflows including codecs, transcoding, and archiving.
  • Understanding of IP infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls) as deployed in broadcast production facilities.
  • Ability to self-direct and manage projects through completion.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, and Outlook in the execution of your job.
  • Ability to read and understand technical manuals, product information, and system documentation.
  • Ability to confidently troubleshoot problems and offer the best solution.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work on ladders, stand for long periods of time, and lift computers and other equipment up to 50 lbs.
Proof of full dosage of a COVID-19 vaccination is required for all positions that will be working onsite, or may reasonably or occasionally be called to work onsite.
