Position Summary
The Department of Music at the UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN–LA CROSSE is soliciting qualified candidates for a full-time position (permanent, not tenure-track) to teach Applied Voice, Class Voice, Treble Chorus, and a small vocal ensemble.

We are seeking a teacher-artist who will provide leadership and collaboration in our music program, especially in the choral/vocal area. The instructional load will include

  • voice lessons (individuals for majors/minors whose principal area of study is voice)
  • class voice (for music education students and those students who desire to improve their singing) and
  • performance-oriented choral/vocal ensembles.

For the small vocal ensemble, the Department desires a leader who can provide diverse experiences apart from those in the larger traditional choral ensembles. Small ensemble possibilities would include vocal jazz or contemporary styles.
Additional teaching responsibilities may be assigned according to the candidate’s strengths and the school’s needs. The applicant should also convey a commitment to supporting recruitment of music majors for the program and serving on relevant department committees.
Description of College / Department / Program / Division / Unit
The School of Visual & Performing Arts at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse prepares students for meaningful careers in the arts, offering a B.A. or B.S. in music and a B.S. in music education. The Department of Music includes 9 full-time faculty, several ad-hoc positions and approximately 75 undergraduate majors and minors. The Department provides a strong foundation including quality curriculum in music history, theory, applied music lessons and ensemble experiences within our music program. The Department currently offers Concert Choir (SATB), Treble Chorus (SSA), Choral Union (community and student choir) and a small vocal ensemble. Our mission is to provide a broad range of musical experiences for our music majors and minors, university students and the community. Persons with experience and commitment to achieve goals relative to diversity and inclusion are especially encouraged to apply.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of a Masters in Music (M.M. or M.F.A.);
  • Teaching experience in applied voice;
  • Choral conducting experience;
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion;
  • Evidence of a collaborative and open-minded approach to working with students and colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced Graduate Degree in Voice or Choral Conducting;
  • University teaching experience in applied voice;
  • University teaching experience in class voice;
  • Professional experience as a vocal performer;
  • Evidence of choral conducting at the university or professional level.
  • Public school teaching experience would also be desirable.

  • Repetitive motion (conducting, typing for email communications, teaching, etc.)
  • Manual dexterity (accompanying at the piano)
  • Talking/Singing (for longer periods during teaching/rehearsing)
